Challenge
The overarching challenge was to architect a cohesive, user-friendly experience that elegantly integrated these diverse functionalities, from passive memory storage to active storytelling, organizational tasks, and real-time communication, across both an IoT device and a mobile application, ensuring a truly holistic and invaluable solution for preserving and sharing life’s moments.
- The core objective was to empower users
Digitally preserve visual memories
Effortlessly upload photos and organize them into rich, interactive galleries.
Enrich memories with personal narratives
Provide the ability to record heartfelt audio stories directly linked to these visual memories.
Facilitate meaningful sharing
Enable users to easily share curated galleries and stories with friends and family, fostering deeper connections.
- The platform also needed to integrate advanced functionalities, presenting additional design and technical complexities
Organizational Tools
Incorporate features for scanning and managing receipts and other important paperwork, transforming the platform into a comprehensive personal archive.
Real-time Connection
Seamlessly integrate video calling capabilities, allowing users to connect and share moments live within the same ecosystem.
Solution
I designed a custom SaaS platform and mobile application environment aimed at revolutionizing how users preserve and share cherished memories with loved ones.
Crafting the brand identity
The Rosy brand had evolved over several years, giving us a unique chance to create a fresh, recognizable, and clean brand identity that would shine across all platforms. My approach blended the abstract concept of a rose with a digital assistant. Through extensive user testing, our audience chose the new Rosy logo from dozens of options, and it quickly became the clear favorite.
Better brainstorming with ideation workshops
I kicked off product development with ideation workshops focused on solving real problems and seizing key opportunities. The core inspiration stemmed from a desire to empower users to preserve generational memories through photo scanning, video storytelling, and family sharing.
My collaborative process involved:
- Gathering diverse inspiration to fuel innovative thinking.
- Clearly defining the core problem we aimed to solve for users.
- Aligning business needs with potential product solutions.
- Identifying essential deliverables for our Minimum Viable Product (MVP) launch.
This structured workshop approach resulted in a unanimously agreed-upon, clearly defined plan for the MVP’s features and functionality, setting a solid foundation for development.
Defined the user experience
UX/UI design & high-fidelity prototyping
Collaborating closely with cross functional teams, I dedicated hundreds of hours to meticulously mapping the user journey and developing complex, high-fidelity prototypes. This rigorous process allowed us to pre-test and vet features thoroughly before approving them for development. I iterated through several design versions, ensuring the final result was worthy of a successful Phase 1 launch.
Preserving and sharing generational memories
Users can effortlessly upload photos, record heartfelt audio stories, and organize them into rich, interactive galleries. This integrated approach transforms passive viewing into an active, emotional experience, empowering families to preserve richer memories by capturing the context and emotion behind photos with personal voice narratives.
This project showcases how thoughtful product design can transform a basic utility like photo storage into a powerful tool for human connection and legacy building.
Video communication to enhance personal connections
Starting with a human-centered design process, we conducted extensive user research to understand how people truly connect and the obstacles they face with current video calling platforms.
The resulting app design delivered an intuitive and emotionally engaging video call experience. By leveraging Twilio’s technical capabilities, we were able to empower friends and family to connect effortlessly, fostering stronger relationships through reliable and enjoyable conversations.
Creating a cohesive sharing experiences across platforms.
I developed a mobile experience specifically designed to complement and extend the functionality of Rosy’s in-home IoT device. The mobile app simplifies account setup, manages settings, facilitates image uploads, enables story recording, and allows seamless sharing with contacts. Results
My leadership and hands-on design efforts culminated in a highly innovative desktop SaaS and mobile application platform, purpose-built for the preservation and sharing of generational memories. The resulting solution provides users with the ability to effortlessly upload photos, record heartfelt audio stories, and curate them into rich, interactive galleries that foster deeper connections when saved and shared with family and friends.
